Hutchison Engineering, Inc. (HEI) is known as a firm that has successfully completed some of the region’s biggest civil engineering projects and routinely partners with IDOT, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, municipalities, county highway departments, and other public agencies and private companies on projects of all sizes. Each project is treated with the same attention to detail and professional project management.
Our roots started in 1945 where we began as Casler and Stapleton with an office in Jacksonville, IL. The company has evolved through several name changes over the years. In 1960, we became Casler and Associates. In 1972, we became Casler, Houser and Hutchison, Inc. As Casler, Houser and Hutchison, we opened a second office in Joliet, IL in 1996. In 2001, the firm name was changed to Hutchison Engineering, Inc. In 2006, our Joliet office moved to its new location in Shorewood, IL. In 2012, a third office was opened in Peoria, IL. In 2017, a fourth office was opened in Moline, IL. There have been three generations of Hutchison’s working for the firm since 1954. Gary Hutchison is currently the Chairman of the Board with sons Joe Hutchison working as a Executive Vice President and Manager of the Structural Unit and James Hutchison working as part of the technical staff.
The firm has consistently grown over the last 75 years and currently stands at 60 employees working in the four different offices. With the long standing presence in Illinois, the HEI staff consists of 28 licensed professional engineers, 4 licensed structural engineers and 5 licensed professional land surveyors. In addition to the Illinois professional licenses, the HEI staff also has licensed professional engineers in Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Alabama, Colorado, Minnesota and Michigan.
The firm has completed projects in eight of the nine Illinois Department of Transportation districts, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, the Illinois Capital Development Board, 55 of the 102 Illinois Counties, 50 Illinois municipalities, and countless other public agencies and private companies.
