IL Rte 47 Reconstruction

Hutchison Engineering, Inc. was selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation, District 3 to provide preliminary engineering services including the preparation of plans, specification and estimates for the reconstruction and expansion of 11.5 miles of IL Rte. 47 from north of Interstate 80 in Morris to Caton Farm Rd. The project was initiated to address future growth, increase capacity and improve safety. The improvement consists of reconstruction and expansion of the existing two lane rural roadway to a 4-lane facility with a median. The southern portion of the improvement has an urban cross-section with curb and gutter and storm sewer. The northern portion has a rural cross-section with shoulders and ditches. The improvement includes traffic signal improvements, roadway lighting, two bridge replacements and replacement of several large box culverts. Detailed traffic management plans were developed to ensure safe and efficient travel through the site while major construction activities are ongoing. Construction of this $84.6 million project was split into two parts. The southern portion is scheduled for completion in 2017. The north portion is scheduled for completion in 2018.
