Caton Farm Rd & Ridge Rd Intersection

Hutchison Engineering, Inc. (HEI) was selected by the Kendall County Highway Department to provide Phase II preliminary engineering services for improvements to the Caton Farm Rd. and Ridge Rd. intersection in Joliet, IL. The project was undertaken to replace the existing span wire traffic signals with mast arm mounted signals and improve intersection geometrics. The signal system designed by HEI utilizes infrared detection rather than more traditional loop or video detection methods to more accurately detect approaching vehicles. Additional safety enhancements included the use of narrow strips of reflective sheeting around the borders of the traffic signal back plates to enhance signal visibility and reduce red light running incidents. Construction of this $430,000 project was completed in 2014.
