Exchange St Realignment

Hutchison Engineering, Inc. (HEI) was selected by the Will County Division of Transportation to provide preliminary engineering services for the reconstruction and realignment of CH 49 (Exchange St.) near Crete, IL. The realignment was initiated to improve safety by correcting substandard horizontal curves and poor intersection angles which resulted in higher than average crash frequencies. HEI coordinated environmental studies including noise analysis and hydraulic studies, performed alignment studies, prepared intersection design studies, prepared right of way plans, prepared plans, specification and estimates. The improvement consisted of complete reconstruction of the narrow roadway to a two lane pavement on improved horizontal and vertical alignments with full shoulders, assisted in utility coordination, obtained permits and auxiliary lanes at the intersections. The reconstruction also includes the replacement of two large box culverts and improved ditches. The project was constructed utilizing two separate construction contracts, with separate design plans, specifications and contract documents developed for both contracts. The initial contract involving additional lanes and signal modifications at IL Rte. 394 was completed during the first contract and the roadway reconstruction was completed on the second contract. Construction of this approximately $7.8 million project was completed in 2015.
